  • Which customers are more than 60 days past due?
  • Four accounts, $84,120 in total. Northwind Supply is the largest at $41,500 across three invoices, the oldest 94 days out.
  • What did Northwind buy last quarter?
  • $126,400 across 11 invoices — mostly assembly kits and installation labour. Their average days-to-pay has moved from 38 to 71 since April.

Illustrative. Figures come from your own company file.

Why Orvanta QBD

Everything your team asks QuickBooks, answered in seconds

Built specifically for QuickBooks Desktop, with the controls that get it approved.

  • Ask your books a question, get a real answer

“Who is over 60 days past due?” “What did we spend with this vendor last quarter?” Your AI assistant reads the answer straight from QuickBooks Desktop and shows you the rows behind it — no export, no spreadsheet, no waiting on someone to pull it.

  • Read-only until you say otherwise

Orvanta QBD ships locked down. The AI can look, not touch. If you later want it to draft an invoice or a bill, you enable that deliberately — and every change is previewed for you before it is committed.

  • Your books never leave your building

Orvanta QBD is software you install and run yourself, next to QuickBooks. There is no Orvanta cloud in the middle and no copy of your company file anywhere else. We never see your data.

What people use it for

The questions you already ask, without the legwork

Most of the work in a finance team is looking something up. Orvanta QBD removes that step.

  • Answer the question without pulling a report

“Which customers are more than 60 days past due, and what did they buy last quarter?” Asked in plain English, answered from today's numbers, with the underlying rows there to check.

  • Get through the close faster

Pull the trial balance and ledger detail, compare against last period, and have the assistant draft the variance commentary — with the figures it used attached.

  • Stop rebuilding the same spreadsheet

Aging, sales by item, customer balances: the recurring pulls someone does by hand every month become a question you ask once.

  • Bring AP and AR into your team's AI workflow

With write access enabled, the assistant can draft bills and invoices for you to approve — each one previewed before it is committed, and each one logged.

Setup

Running in about the time it takes to install QuickBooks updates

Four steps on the machine that already has your company file.

  1. 1

    Install on the QuickBooks computer

Run the Orvanta QBD installer on the Windows machine where your company file lives. It sets up a background service and a small admin app.

  2. 2

Point it at your company file

Open the admin app, choose the company file and approve Orvanta QBD once inside QuickBooks. Leave the mode on read-only to start.

  3. 3

    Create access for your team

Add a user or an application key, decide what it is allowed to see, and copy the connection details.

  4. 4

    Connect your AI assistant

Add Orvanta QBD to Claude Desktop or any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, and start asking questions.

How it is different

Desktop is not an afterthought here

Built for Desktop, not adapted from Online

QuickBooks Desktop has no web API, which is why most AI integrations quietly skip it. Orvanta QBD is built specifically for Desktop through Intuit's own SDK, on the machine where QuickBooks already lives.

Safe enough to actually approve

Read-only by default, permissions held on your machine, confirmation before any change, and a full audit trail. The controls are the reason IT signs off rather than the reason they don't.

No middleman, no monthly data export

Nothing syncs to a third-party cloud and nothing goes stale. The assistant reads your live company file at the moment you ask.

Security

The reason IT says yes

Finance data is the last thing anyone wants leaving the building. Orvanta QBD is built so it does not have to.

See the security model
  • Installed and run entirely on your own machines
  • Read-only unless you deliberately enable writing
  • Encrypted, authenticated connections between components
  • Access limited to the people, apps and IP ranges you name
  • Every request recorded in an append-only audit log

Questions

The things people ask before they install it

What does Orvanta QBD actually do?

It lets an AI assistant such as Claude read your QuickBooks Desktop company file and answer questions about it — in plain English, from live data. Instead of exporting reports and pasting them into a chat, you ask the question and the assistant looks it up for you.

Does my financial data leave my network?

No. Orvanta QBD is software you install and run on your own machines. There is no Orvanta service in the path and no copy of your company file anywhere else — we never see your data. What your AI provider does with the answers you receive is governed by your agreement with them.

Can the AI change my books?

Not unless you enable it. Orvanta QBD is read-only when installed, and the write features are simply not available to the assistant in that mode. If you do turn write access on, the assistant shows you the intended change and waits for your confirmation before anything is committed — and it is all recorded in the audit log.

Which versions of QuickBooks Desktop are supported?

Pro, Premier and Enterprise, current and older years. Orvanta QBD adapts to what your company file supports, so an older version simply offers a smaller set of fields. A few areas — sales orders and inventory assemblies, for instance — exist only in Premier and Enterprise because that is how QuickBooks works.

Does it work with QuickBooks Online?

No. QuickBooks Online is a separate product with its own API. Orvanta QBD is built for QuickBooks Desktop.
