How it works
Two small pieces of software, both yours
One sits with QuickBooks. The other talks to your AI assistant. Nothing else is involved.
Orvanta QBD Gateway
A Windows service that holds the connection to your company file and does the actual work. It also enforces the rules: who may connect, what they may see, and whether anything may be changed.
Orvanta QBD MCP
The piece your AI assistant talks to. It turns questions into the right lookups and hands back clean, structured results. Run it on the same machine or a different one.
Claude and other MCP clients
Orvanta QBD uses the Model Context Protocol, the open standard AI assistants use to discover tools — so it works with Claude Desktop today and anything else that adopts the standard.
Connecting Claude Desktop is one config entry
Point Claude at the Orvanta MCP server and your QuickBooks tools appear in the conversation. Your IT contact can do this once and roll it out to the team.

Your whole company file, not five tables
Customers, invoices, bills, estimates, sales orders, purchase orders, checks, deposits, journal entries, the chart of accounts, items, employees and the line-level detail underneath them — around 80 areas of QuickBooks in all.
The reports you already run
Profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance, general ledger, A/R and A/P aging, sales by customer and by item, customer and vendor balances — available for the assistant to pull on request.
Works with the QuickBooks you already have
Pro, Premier and Enterprise, current and older years. Orvanta QBD checks what your company file supports and offers exactly that — so an older file simply shows fewer fields instead of throwing errors at you.
Nothing is written without your confirmation
When write access is switched on, the assistant first shows you what it intends to change. Nothing reaches your books until you confirm it, and it never silently retries a failed write.
Control who can do what
Grant one person read-only access and another the ability to create bills. Permissions are set on the QuickBooks machine, so they hold no matter what the AI client is asked to do.
A complete record of every request
Who asked, when, what they asked for and whether it succeeded — kept in a tamper-evident log on your own machine, ready for your auditors. Financial figures themselves are never written into logs.

Under the hood
Seven tools, and only four of them exist in read-only mode
This is the whole surface your assistant sees. Write tools are simply not registered unless you enable write access.

Getting started
Four steps, one afternoon at most

Install on the QuickBooks computer
Run the Orvanta QBD installer on the Windows machine where your company file lives. It sets up a background service and a small admin app.

Point it at your company file
Open the admin app, choose the company file and approve Orvanta QBD once inside QuickBooks. Leave the mode on read-only to start.

Create access for your team
Add a user or an application key, decide what it is allowed to see, and copy the connection details.

Connect your AI assistant
Add Orvanta QBD to Claude Desktop or any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, and start asking questions.
